Durham American Legion Boys State Delegates standing in a group with the American Flag

Durham American Legion Post 673 are proud to announce the 2021 Boys State delegates from Durham High School.  Posing with Old Glory and their Guidance Counselor Colleen Coutts at Durham High school are left to right: Joshua Mendoza, Owen Allsup, Tyler Messina, Logan Messick, Carson Vanella, and Brady Webb.  Alternate is Noah Pettit, in case one of the others cannot attend. The annual leadership and government training event is usually held at Sacramento State University, this year, due to Covid it will be held virtually from June 19-25.  Durham Legion having previously sent two or three candidates per year, was able to apply for additional space for attendees as there are fewer applications to the program due to the ongoing pandemic. These six young men, pictured, are currently juniors at DHS and will return to their campus in the fall ready to implement some of what they learned during the summer sessions.  The long line of leadership at Durham High School is now 69 years “young” – the local post having sent 106 delegates to Boys State since the program’s inception in our community. American Legion Post 673 Adjutant Sharon Fisher and Post Chaplain Darell Chenault were on the panel to make the selections.
